Phantom Star Franc D’Ambrosio Knighted by Italian Government
On February 3, 2020, Franc D’Ambrosio was honored at a special knighting ceremony hosted by Italy’s Consulate General Lorenzo Ortona in San Francisco. The bestowment was presented by order of the President of the Republic of Italy, Sergio Mattarella. Franc was formally given the title Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia (Knight of the Order of the Star of Italy), the highest honor the Italian government can bestow on an expatriate.

Franc was welcomed back to Palermo, Italy, as the honored guest and featured performer for a special concert celebrating the 30th anniversary of the filming of Godfather III on July 11, 2019. He also made a special visit to Il Teatro Massimo, where he performed the operatic scenes from La Cavalleria Rusticana in the film.

Life imitated art as the Phantom, or Franc D’Ambrosio, chose his own Christine — and Raoul — from master class participants Nov. 10 at Wayne County Community College’s Taylor campus.
The two finalists, Tom Butwin of Troy and Taylor Towers of Trenton, sang a cameo duet from Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Phantom of the Opera” during Franc D’Ambrosio’s Nov. 11 concert. Lara Semetko of Grosse Ile Township also was chosen to sing, performing a non-Phantom song at the concert.
